A diferencia de la bomba de insulina donde la infusi\u00f3n de insulina est\u00e9 preprogramada, nuestro p\u00e1ncreas artificial ajusta la infusi\u00f3n de insulina cada quince minutos a partir de las lecturas de glucosa que proporciona un monitor continuo de gucosa. De esta forma, se puede reaccionar a desviaciones de la glucosa objetivo. Comparado con otros sistemas en desarrollo, nuestro p\u00e1ncreas artificial incorpora un sistema de seguridad propio que cambia autom\u00e1ticamente la glucosa objetivo para evitar la infusi\u00f3n excesiva de nsulina, que al tardar cierto tiempo en absorberse podr\u00eda poducir hipoglucemia. Este es uno de los principales problemas del control tras las comidas.<\/p>\n<p>En el estudio CLOSEDLOOP4MEAL se estudiaron 20 pacientes entre el Hospital Cl\u00ednico de Valencia el Hospital Cl\u00ednic de Barcelona. Cada paciente se someti\u00f3 a cuatro estudios (dos con la bomba de nsulina dos con el nuevo p\u00e1ncreas artificial), donde despu\u00e9s de un periodo de normalizaci\u00f3n de su glucosa, el paciente ingiri\u00f3 una com da de 6 raciones de carbohidratos, tras Io cual se analiz\u00f3 la calidad del control gluc\u00e9m co durante las 8 horas siguientes. Se trata del primer estudio en condiciones controladas centrado en el estudio del control de glucosa tras una com da y la variabilidad del mismo en dos ocasiones diferentes en el mismo paciente. Se consigui\u00f3 reducir la glucemia media en un 20% (124 mg\/dL con el p\u00e1ncreas artificial frente 155 mg\/dL con la bomba de insulina), reducir el valor m\u00e1ximo de glucosa en un 15% (183 mg\/dL frente 217 mg\/dL) aumentar el tiempo en valores normales de glucosa entre 70 y 180 mg\/dL en un 24% (6.35 horas frente a 5.11 horas de las 8 horas de estudio). Todo ello sin una mayor incidencia de hipoglucemia.
