Estudios preliminares empleando bombas de insulina y monitores cont\u00ednuos de glucosa (CGM) comerciales, sugieren que en entornos controlados, los sistemas autom\u00e1ticos de administraci\u00f3n de insulina pueden obtener un mejor control gluc\u00e9mico que los sistemas de lazo abierto en los que el proprio sujeto toma decisiones. Estos resultados prometedores llevaron a la Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) a impulsar dicha investigaci\u00f3n lanzado hace tres a\u00f1os su proyecto Artificial Pancreas, as\u00ed como a la Food and Drug Administration (FDA) en EE.UU. a designar al p\u00e1ncreas artificial como una prioridad en su Critical Path Initiative. Sin embargo, a d\u00eda de hoy s\u00f3lo se han desarrollado unos pocos prototipos, validados en entornos hospitalarios controlados. De hecho existen todav\u00eda desaf\u00edos como:<\/p>\n<p>1. Hacer frente a las grandes perturbaciones que afectan al sistema, como las comidas y el ejercicio;<br \/>\n2. Robustez frente a la gran variabilidad del comportamiento fisiol\u00f3gico del paciente;<br \/>\n3. Exactitud y fiabilidad de los monitores continuos de glucosa, que deben mejorarse;<br \/>\n4. Saguridad de las bombas de insulina y detecci\u00f3n de fallos;<br \/>\n5. Correcci\u00f3n adecuada de la acci\u00f3n lenta de los controladores debido a retrasos en el lazo de control.<\/p>\n<p>El objetivo general de este proyecto es obtener un sistema de control de glucemia en lazo cerrado seguro y eficiente tras una ingesta. Esto se alcanzar\u00e1 a trav\u00e9s de:<\/p>\n<p>1. El desarrollo de nuevas estrategias de lazo cerrado para el control postprandial. Se llevar\u00e1 a cabo una validaci\u00f3n cl\u00ednica de un nuevo algoritmo para la optimizaci\u00f3n del control postprandial. Los resultados cl\u00ednicos impulsar\u00e1n el desarrollo de nuevas estrategias de lazo cerrado para compensar adecuadamente las comidas sin riesgo de hipoglucemia.<br \/>\n2. La mejora de la exactitud y fiabilidad de los monitores continuos de glucosa para detectar hipoglucemia. Los monitores continuos de glucosa estiman la glucosa en plasma a partir de medidas en el intersticio. Sin embargo, la relaci\u00f3n entre la glucosa plasm\u00e1tica e intersticial no se conoce bien todav\u00eda, especialmente en condiciones din\u00e1micas.
